Bill Smyth joined the firm in 1985 and has been instrumental in expanding the firm’s reach throughout the Southeast. His client roster spans a wide spectrum of businesses from large public corporations to emerging businesses. This experience has provided Bill with a keen understanding of corporate culture and the fundamental demands that each senior role presents. He has a unique ability to recognize leadership gleaned from his parallel career as an Army National Guard Officer.

Bill’s stated expertise in recruiting leaders has yielded an impressive track record of senior executive placements across all business disciplines with deep experience in specialized manufacturing industries including: chemicals, food products, pharmaceuticals, textiles, heavy machinery and aerospace.

Before joining the firm Bill worked in corporate capital machinery including roles in engineering, sales and marketing management, strategic business development and general management.

A Distinguished OCS Graduate, Bill served in a variety of command and senior staff roles, primarily as a Combat Engineer Officer and retired at the rank of Colonel. Upon retirement, he was appointed a Brigadier General on the State Retired List of the National Guard of Georgia.

He earned his Bachelor of Engineering degree from Stevens Institute of Technology where he was also captain of the varsity fencing team, and completed his MBA academics with honors at Fairleigh Dickenson University. He is also a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College.

Leadership and service are part of Bill’s DNA. He has served his church communities, as an Elder, Deacon, Stephen Minister, and Walk to Emmaus Lay Leader. He is also a Master Mason and a Chevalier of the Order of DeMolay.

Bill and his wife Janet have 3 grown daughters and he enjoys tennis, golf, road biking and fishing.
