2022 Recruiting Trends You Need to Know

What a year it’s been, right? When it comes to hiring, 2021 has been unlike any I’ve seen in a long time. From things like “The Great Resignation” to “The Great Retirement,” employees are leaving companies left and right. There are more job postings than there are candidates. And when it comes to hiring, this is a candidate-driven market.

It seems like everywhere we look, a company is hiring. The Bureau of Labor has shared that there are more than 10 million job openings right now. But the problem is, there aren’t that many candidates out there actively looking for a job. This has created a challenge for companies looking to hire right now.

As we get closer to the new year, here are some recruiting trends we’ve seen recently that you need to know about if you have plans of hiring:

  1. Passive candidates are vital. There are more jobs than active candidates right now, and we don’t expect that to change any time soon. With fewer people applying to jobs, and less active candidates available to you, it’ll be vital to work with someone that can help you find those passive candidates. These are often more valuable to your company than active candidates and allow you to find exactly what you’re looking for in a candidate.
  2. Remote work will continue to be a hot topic. Be very clear about what your company currently offers and any plans for that to change. It’s one of the top questions from candidates and something they’re using in their decision-making.
  3. Competition is fierce. Candidates have more options than ever before, and employers are pulling out all the stops to attract them. This is all about company branding to attract new candidates. If your brand were a product on the shelf, would candidates be likely to pick yours up first? Make sure your story and brand reflect who you are (and lose the “a great place to work” generic information). You have to stand out through an emotional story.

It has certainly not been a “normal” year in the world of recruiting, and we don’t expect that to change any time soon. As you head into 2022, pay attention to these recruiting trends and make the changes necessary to attract right-fit candidates.
